1. The Honest Woodcutter

A poor woodcutter was cutting wood by a river when his axe slipped and fell into the water. Distraught, he sat by the river, unsure of what to do. The river god appeared and offered him a golden axe, but the woodcutter refused, saying it wasn’t his. The god then offered him a silver axe, but the woodcutter again refused. Finally, the god gave him his own iron axe, which the woodcutter happily accepted. Impressed with his honesty, the god rewarded him with the golden and silver axes as well.

Moral: Honesty is always rewarded.

2. The Lion and the Mouse

One day, a mighty lion was caught in a hunter’s net. A small mouse passed by, and the lion asked for help. The mouse gnawed through the ropes, freeing the lion. Later, the lion caught the same mouse in his paw but remembered the favor. He released the mouse, and when the lion was trapped again, the mouse came to his rescue once more.

Moral: No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

3. The Tortoise and the Hare

The boastful hare challenged the slow-moving tortoise to a race. Confident he would win, the hare ran far ahead and took a nap. Meanwhile, the tortoise kept moving steadily and slowly. When the hare woke up, it was too late—the tortoise had already won the race.

Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.

4. The Boy Who Cried Wolf

A young shepherd boy, bored while watching sheep, decided to cry out, “Wolf!” to trick the villagers into thinking there was danger. When they rushed to help, they found no wolf. The boy laughed at their reaction. Later, when a real wolf appeared, the boy cried out for help, but no one believed him, and the wolf attacked the sheep.

Moral: Lying ruins trust.

5. The Golden Touch

King Midas was granted one wish, and he asked that everything he touched turn to gold. His wish was granted, and he turned everything, even food and water, into gold. Realizing his mistake, he begged to reverse the wish and learned that wealth is not everything.

Moral: Be careful what you wish for.

6. The Two Friends and the Bear

Two friends were traveling through the forest when they encountered a bear. One friend quickly climbed a tree to escape, while the other, unable to climb, lay down pretending to be dead. The bear sniffed him and left. When the danger passed, the first friend asked, “What did the bear whisper in your ear?” The second friend replied, “He said never to travel with a friend who would leave you in danger.”

Moral: A true friend will never abandon you in a time of need.

7. The Dog and His Reflection

A dog was crossing a bridge with a bone in his mouth. Seeing his reflection in the water, he thought it was another dog with a bigger bone. Greedily, he dropped his bone to grab the larger one, only to lose both bones.

Moral: Don’t be greedy, or you might lose what you already have.

8. The Farmer and the Stork

A farmer set a net to catch the cranes that were eating his crops. When he went to check the trap, he found a stork caught in it. The stork pleaded for mercy, explaining that it wasn’t a crane but had merely been in the wrong place at the wrong time. The farmer let the stork go but warned that one should choose their company wisely.

Moral: You are judged by the company you keep.

9. The Ant and the Grasshopper

The hardworking ant spent the summer collecting food, while the carefree grasshopper sang and danced. When winter came, the ant had enough food, while the grasshopper had none. The grasshopper begged the ant for help, but the ant reminded him that he should have prepared for the future.

Moral: Prepare for tomorrow today.

10. The Wise Owl

A young owl asked his father, “Why do we stay awake at night?” The wise old owl replied, “Because at night, the world sleeps and the stars shine bright, allowing us to see more clearly.” The young owl nodded and understood that sometimes, it’s better to go at your own pace and time.

Moral: Wisdom often comes with patience and understanding.
